Improving Your Balance and Stability
This six-lesson Awareness Through Movement series is designed to improve balance and stability all in upright movement.
We were designed to walk upright on these two little sticks. In order to do that without effort or pain, we must channel gravity through our skeleton and ask as little from our muscles to hold us up as possible.
Balance and stability is about the beautiful ballet of muscles contracting and letting go in easy synchrony. These lessons are designed to teach our nervous system how to do that.
Also included are Five-Minute Feldies for each lesson. They are short video lessons that you can do in five to ten minutes to reinforce the longer lessons.
- Hamstrings, the Feldenkrais Way -- lengthens the hamstrings by incrementally layering more challenging movements while staying in a comfortable range.
- Foot Against the Wall --coordinates the movement of the ankles to the knees and hips for more stable movement.
- Kegels, the Feldenkrais Way, Part 1 -- connects the muscles of the pelvic floor to the surrounding muscle groups for greater support in the pelvis.
- Balancing Books on Your Feet, Part 1 -- improves the sensation in our feet and connects the ankles to our knees and hip joints.
- Balancing Books on Your Feet, Part 2 -- refines the coordination of the movement of the feet and ankles to the upper body.
- Improving Balance, the Feldenkrais Way -- refines the brain map of how the shoulders, spine, pelvis and feet align and coordinate to give us easier and more stable movement in standing.
